How to start a spiritual journey?

You may of looked into or seen a lot of things about being spiritual and have wondered if you can start your own spiritual journey but are unsure on where to begin. Here are some ways to help you embark on your own unique journey.

Firstly define spirituality for yourself. Do you want to connect more with nature, live a more simple life. It could be for personal growth, a sense of belonging, healing. Once you have decided on a reason to why you want to start this journey, you will be able to find a path that connects best with you, as everyone has different purpose to starting their journeys, it is best not to follow what someone else is doing, as this way you will have a more deeper and meaningful journey catered to you.

Practicing self reflection is another step towards beginning this journey and may be one of the hardest at first. Allocating time alone to begin to understand values, fears and desires. Its also a good time to start journaling, where you can write all these down and add to along the way. Write down your thoughts, feelings or any questions you may seek answers for. Start to document any insights or experiences that feel meaningful to you along the way. Mediation is also a good way to practice self reflection as it helps to clarify your thoughts and guide your path. Start with just 5-10 minutes a day, focusing on your breathing, letting thoughts enter and leave, not dwelling on them for too long, when coming out of meditation, jot those thoughts down, ways to overcome them if needed, and how you felt going into meditation, and how you feel once out.

Connect more with nature, spend time outdoors and experience the wonders of life. Being out in nature helps you realise everything is living, everything has an energy. Watch the sunrise or sunset, sit by a tree and let the peace take over. Nature is a good way to help you feel connected to something higher then yourself.

Start each day by naming 3 things you are grateful for. Gratitude can help shift your perspective and open your heart. Write these things in your journal as for harder days, its will help to reflect on all the great things in your life.

Be patient with yourself. Understand that spirituality is a life long journey and more a way of life, it is not something that you will achieve overnight, and you do have to put the work in to help change your life. Allow yourself to grow at your own pace, and find and create a way that works best for you. This is your own unique journey.
